Those holidaying at the Casa Mariantonia residence, find themselves transported back in time. The establishment occupies an important place in the history of Anacapri. Built in 1800, and subsequently enlarged, the property has been the chosen island abode of many an illustrious visitor, from the writer Alberto Moravia to the eminent philosopher Jen Paul Sartre, from Elsa Morante to the unforgettable Prince Antonio De Curtis, better known as Totò.
It was Signora Mariantonia - grand mother of the present proprietors - who first opened a restaurant here, which she then transformed in small hotel. The business later passed on to her daughter Vincenza who managed the residence together with her husband, don Peppe Canale, until the 1950's.
It was at Casa Mariantonia that the original Limoncello di Capri was born; the celebrated lemon liqueur, traditionally served as after lunch or dinner drink. Signora Mariantonia prepared the divine concoction herself, using the lemons grown in the garden adjacent to the hotel, and habitually offered it to all her guests. The liqueur is still made to this very day, following the great island tradition, thanks to the Canale family who first registered the prestigious brand name.
Casa Mariantonia is synonymous with warm and courteous hospitality. The hotel, a historic residence located in the heart of Anacapri, has a total of six beautifully appointed rooms with private bathroom, each carefully designed so as to guarantee the most peaceful and comfortable of sojourns. The bedrooms are equipped with every modern amenity, including 26'' LCD TV, acclimatization, WI-FI internet connectivity, safety deposit box, and secure access via magnetic card system. In addition, the rooms all open out on to a large private terrace - where breakfast is served - overlooking sweet smelling gardens filled with the island's celebrated lemon trees. Each and every room in the Casa Mariantonia is unique; imbued with the atmosphere of the past and evoking delightful sensations of wellbeing and tranquillity.
